Quanta Said to Have Acquired Orders From Apple for New Models of iPhone

2007/07/24
Taipei, July 24, 2007 (CENS)--Quanta Computer Inc., one of Taiwan`s leading manufacturers of cell phones, is said to have acquired orders from the U.S.-based Apple Computer for assembling new models of iPhone cellphones.

To meet the upcoming introduction of the new models of Apple iPhone cellphones, domestic PCB (printed circuit board) manufacturers are preparing materials for conducting mass production.

Apple has seen hot sales of its first-generation iPhone cellphones since its introduction. There is a rumor that Quanta has obtained orders for Apple`s new models of iPhone cellphones. But Quanta and relevant firms are keeping low profile as they are restricted from releasing any information under the business privacy terms reached with Apple. It is expected that the new models of iPhone cellphones will be introduced sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

In addition to the contract assembling orders, Apple also releases orders for such key components and parts as PCBs. But the PCB orders are mostly acquired by such large-sized PCB firms as Compeq Manufacturing Co., Wus Printed Circuit Co., Gold Circuit Electronics Ltd., Unimicron Technology Corp. and Nan Ya PCB Corp. who have been accredited as the qualified suppliers of rigid flex PCBs.

Some domestic PCB firms said shipment of Apple iPhone cellphones is still far less than that shipped by the world`s first-tier cellphone brands. At present, each of the world`s first-tier cellphone manufacturers is capable of shipping over 100 million cellphones per year.
