Ritek Wins Big Order for HD DVD Discs From Japan`s Toshiba

2008/01/15
Taipei, Jan. 15, 2008 (CENS)--Ritek Corp., a large-sized manufacturer of discs in Taiwan, has landed a big order from Japan`s Toshiba for HD (high definition) DVD-RW discs for sales in 2008, and will start delivery in the first quarter of the year, according to company sources.

Ritek has worked closely with Toshiba since last year, supplying the Japanese brand HD DVD-RW discs and effectively commanding a share of 26.1% in the global market for the products as the largest supplier of this kind in 2007.

Toshiba launched its Qosmio series notebook PCs at the end of 2007, which all were built with HD DVD disc drivers, and promoted the new products by offering three additional free HD DVD-RW discs produced by Ritek.

In addition, Ritek is reportedly contacting other Japanese clients and is likely to land new orders for its Blu-ray DVD discs soon.

Although most of other makers in the line have aggressively ventured into other business operations over the past years, Ritek is still focusing its operations on core business, including development of next-generation and high-end discs.

Besides, Ritek`s subsidiary U-Tech Media Corp., specializing in production of various kinds of discs, reported shining sales performance in 2007, with net profits of NT$74.1 million for the third quarter alone, 10 times the total for the first half of the year, and EPS (earning per share) of NT$0.37 for the first three quarters of the year.
